Abstract

Ozone therapy has been widely discussed as a promising complementary therapy in integrative
health, presenting plausible biological mechanisms and increasing scientific production. In Brazil,
its recent regulation consolidated the clinical use of medicinal ozone within specific legal and
ethical criteria. This study aims to analyze, through a narrative review, the scientific foundations,
biological mechanisms of action, and main clinical applications of ozone therapy in the Brazilian
context. The methodology was based on the analysis of scientific articles, regulatory documents,
and reviews published in databases such as PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, and Web of Science, as
well as national regulatory frameworks. The results indicate that ozone therapy acts as a
biological modulator, promoting antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and
antimicrobial effects, with relevant applications in chronic wounds, musculoskeletal pain,
infectious processes, and aesthetics. It is concluded that ozone therapy presents consistent
clinical   potential,   provided  it  is  applied  with compliance with current regulations, highlighting the need for further robust clinical studies to
consolidate its indications.
